Cleveland Browns Golden Hour.. finally

The Cleveland Browns Celebrated their first win against the New York Jets in what feels like an eternity. Brown’s QB1, Tyrod Taylor left the game in lieu of concussion protocol, and Baker Mayfield stepped up completing 17/23 accurate passes. The game concluded with the Brown’s  final score at 23-17.

This has to be shouted from the rooftops across the nation that the Cleveland Brown’s had their first win against the Jets since the year 2007. And just as a reference point for emphasis, that’s not even the biggest news, but the Browns haven’t won a single GAME in almost two years. Cleveland often referred to as the biggest joke in the NFL, Baker Mayfield’s QB performance shined some hope for Cleveland fans. It clearly wasn’t predicted that Tyrod Taylor would’ve gone out of the game with a concussion, but there were a lot of components added to the team during the offseason and draft that that just needed to be pieced together. The addition of Jarvis Landry to the Browns was an absolute power move. While he had no touchdowns this game, Landry is the type of receiver targeted to get that extra yardage or reach for the reliable first down. Landry even shifted to QB for a play that had Mayfield as a receiver; and it worked flawlessly with Mayfield untouched in the end zone. Not to tarnish this win, but the Browns have a long way to go considering this was still against a struggling Jets team. I’m not a pessimist about Jet’s rookie, Sam Darnold (QB), but after last night he fell true to some rookie pressure. Darnold  completed 15/31 passes in addition two interceptions, Mayfield just looked visibly more comfortable and trusting in his team.  In another aspect of this Brown’s quarterback, he showed his potential with his confidence. Mayfield was putting on a show during his time on the field. There’s an appreciation for players in the league who trash talk and back it up by performance, and his days with Oklahoma were definitely bringing the fire. Certainly looking forward to seeing this provoking in the NFL soon. Here’s a review of one of his many college football shenanigans:

As much as the football community discredits Tony Romo there were plays by Mayfield that reflected a veteran NFL quarterback. Refer to the two videos to compare the similarities between the action of these two quarterbacks. Both plays include the collapsed pocket and composed QB’s maintaining their focus to avoid throwing interceptions (Jameis Winston take notes).

Fast forward to Baker under pressure at 2:53.

Soak up this win, Cleveland fans; truly some of the most dedicated and depressing fans in the National Football League. Every week is a new battle and the Browns battle with the Oakland Raiders next week. Like previously stated, soak up the win, there’s still a lot of work to be done on the Offensive side of the ball. Who knows, Mayfield could be that missing piece to pull this Brown’s team to an 8-8 season… Or make that a 7-1-8 season since double overtime doesn’t exist in the NFL: but that’s a conversation for next week. Congrats, Cleveland!
